The Women’s Business Center program under the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1988 took up the great stand to bring about several long-term grant cycles. Organization started its pilot project in 1989 with the main aim to provide grants in a five year cycle period.
The grants were provided exclusively for women entrepreneurs who have proved their track record with an ample opportunity to again renew their $100,000 per year awards for another five years.
Only those Women Business Centers having completed successfully their initial 5-year cycle period or have been under operation for five years are eligible to apply. Funded by the Federal government, Women Business Centers main target are disadvantaged women.
All the non-profit organizations were also eligible for receiving of the first round of these grants. Under the policies laid by the legislation and program standards, there is a need for Women Business Centers to fully coordinate their efforts with the remaining of the Small Business Administrative initiatives in their communities.
Under the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1998, all the Federal departments and agencies should adopt adequate actions to smooth the progress and strengthen the position of women’s business enterprise ensuring their complete participation in the free enterprise system.
Every department or agency must give federal financial assistance to any program or activity meant for women’s business entrepreneurs. It is a duty of every department to review and monitor the programs and impart information to the Inter-agency Committee on the Enterprising Women.
The centers accepted for the awards will sure receive funds starting from September 2009 through the September 2012. All eligible centers will definite receive the guaranteed funding up till September 2012 and then according to the satisfactory compliance would sure receive funds for both the second and a third option year.
Besides, there are several kinds of grants available in various categories and there are many catering towards the needs for women. Government is definitely increasing the number of grants aiming to fulfill the needs for women entrepreneurs.
They are on the look for those women who have potentiality and aptitude to grow and strive to achieve something very big. Motivating women entrepreneurs is also one way to address the inequality problem lingering between men and women since ages.Catering to provide educational needs is yet another grant to reduce inequalities between income and wealth and government is addressing this issue with great earnest.
